[OLD] Configure ACES Exchange in Outlook 2007

NOTE – this article refers to the old ACES Exchange system. To configure Outlook to use the new CITES Exchange 2010 system, please follow the steps in this article.

1. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Mail -> Show Profiles…

Note: if this is your first time setting up an Outlook account, the Mail window (in step 3) will open after double-clicking on the Mail icon.

2. Click Show Profiles…

3. Click Add… to add a profile

4. Type a name for the profile in the Profile Name: field. (ex. Outlook)

5. Click OK

6. In the Add New Email Account window, check the Manually configure server settings or additional server types box at the bottom of the screen and click Next >.

7. In the Add New E-mail Account window, click the radio button next to Microsoft Exchange and click Next  >.

8. In the Add New E-mail Account window (Microsoft Exchange Settings), enter the following:

  • Microsoft Exchange server: college.acesnet.uiuc.edu
  • Check the box next to Use Cached Exchange Mode (This is recommended for laptops and remote computers)
  • If User Name: is not already populated netid

9. Click Check Name (After doing this the netid will change to last name, first name and the server name will be represented as the exact server cluster that the users mailbox is host on.

Note: steps 10- 15 are for Laptops ONLY. If you are configuring a desktop, skip to step 15

10. Click More Settings …

11.Click the Connection Tab

12. Check the box next to Connect Microsoft Exchange using HTTP ->  then Click Exchange Proxy Settings…

13. In the Microsoft Exchange Proxy Settings, enter the following:

  • https:// exchange.aces.uiuc.edu
  • check Connect using SSL only box
  • uncheck Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their certificate: box
  • uncheck  On fast networks, connect using HTTP first then connect using TCP/IP box
  • check On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP box
  • NTLM Authentication should be selected (by default)

14. Click OK-> OK

15. Click Next->Finish->Close

Your ACES Exchange account should now be configured in Outlook. You will now need to configure the UIUC Campus Directory.
