ACES LIAC Monsanto Room Guide

– A guide for operating the audio, video, lights and microphones

 

The Monsanto Room is controlled by a touch panel located in the right drawer of the podium. To power the system, hit the “Start” button. This will take around 30-40 seconds to complete.

When it is powered up you will see this screen:

1. Home: Pressing this button will bring up a screen asking if you want to power the system off or not. It is the same as button #9, Power.

2. Source: Hitting this will bring up the Source page, where you can select which input source you would like displayed from the projector. An input can only be selected if a signal is present, signified by a green circle.

• Lectern: This is the podium machine located under the touch panel. If there are any issues with this machine try restarting it; it will automatically log in to the Monsanto account.

• Laptop: These sources are for the VGA and HDMI cable sticking out the podium. They are used with external devices brought in by users of the room.

• Facility: Source for composite A/V cables. Rarely used.

• Doc Cam: Source for the podium’s doc cam. If circle is red, make sure the device is on.        

4. Microphones: This button allows you to change the volume level of each microphone. Microphones and stands are stored in the bottom left of the podium. The Monsanto room has three wired connections, the first is labeled “Podium” and this is the only mic that has a mute button (a red square button underneath the microphone). The other two wired connections are on the floor and are rarely used.

There are also five RF channels for wireless mics, with RF 5 being labeled as “Main Lapel”. The other four channels can be shared between lavalier or hand held microphones.

*Note: Only one microphone can be used per RF channel at once, ie: you can’t use RF 4’s lavalier and handheld at the same time.

*Note: The touch panel will display each mic’s volume at 0%, but it is actually ~80%. If you increase the volume by 1%, it will reduce the volume from ~80% to 1% and you’ll need to continue raising the volume until it’s above 80% to get any effect.

 

 

5. Mute / Source Volume: Controls the output volume from the source that was selected

6. Image Show / No Show: Turns the projector’s display on and off

7. Lighting: Allows you to select from four different lighting presets:

• a.       All On: Turns all lights on
• b.      Sconces: Turns the side sconces on
• c.       Cans: Turns the front and back cans on
• d.      All Off: Turns all lights off

 

*Note: Next to the projector screen’s control (raise/lower) switch is another control box for the room’s lights. It has a vertical row of five black buttons, four of which are identical to the touch panel’s presets, but one is an extra. Starting from the top:

                1. All lights on

                2. Front and back cans on

                3. Side sconces on

                4. Main lights only on

                5. All lights off

 

8. Display: Allows you to turn the projector on/off and to auto adjust the image. If the projector did not initially turn on when the system did you’ll need to go here to turn it on. As you hit “On” a red banner saying “Projector Warming Up” will display across the top.If the projector still doesn’t turn on after this banner goes away you will need to manually do so via the projector’s remote control or from inside the control room.

 

9. Power: Pressing this button will bring up a screen asking if you want to power the system off or not. It is the same as button #1, Home.

Troubleshooting Problems:

The go-to solution for the current projector problem is to:

1. Flip the power strip in the bottom left off.
2. Use the projector’s remote (Black, infocus)to turn the projector on
3. Flip the power strip back on, and start the system as usual

Sometimes the system will encounter a problem such as freezing, not displaying a source even though it has a signal, not communicating with the projector, etc. If you encounter something like this, the first step is to restart the system via the touch panel.

If that doesn’t solve the issue, then a hard restart will need to be done. Under the drawer of microphones on the bottom left side of the podium is a power strip with one cord plugged into it. Turn the power strip off for 10 seconds and then power it back on; this will restart the Crestron controller which is located underneath the podium machine on the bottom right side. It’s fine to keep the projector on during this if projector communication is an issue.

A screen with a start button will eventually appear on the touch panel,however do not start the system until the red banner which says “Initializing System” disappears.

If this still does not solve the issue then Chad Johnston (025 LIAC) or Josh Henry (115 LIAC) should be immediately notified. Depending on the situation a temporary projector may have to be set up.

Walkway Rail Lights: These lights are controlled by switches in outside rooms. If one is of these are off, Josh or Chad should be contacted.
