[OLD] Q. What smartphones will work with the ACES Exchange server?

A.  There are several types of phones that work with the ACES Exchange system……..

Windows Mobile, and iPhone

All Microsoft Mobile Phones will work and synchronize Mail, Calendar, and Contacts through the air without the need to tether to your computer. iPhone’s work similarly well and are able to synch Mail, Calendar, and Contacts wirelessly.

BlackBerry

Blackberry’s can also synch wirelessly however this requires a connection to the College’s
Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES). There is a one time change of about $65 to purchase the
license that is necessary to connect to the Blackberry server and then an annual change to
help cover the cost of the maintenance contract that we buy from RIM (BlackBerry). That
charge is not set but we typically divide it up among users of the service. My guess is
somewhere in the 40-60 dollar range. That is only once per year, and we would plan to use
the same C-FOAP provided for the purchase of the license if possible. It is also important to
not that some cell carriers charge a fee for the ability of their service to connect to a
BlackBerry Enterprise server…you will have to work with your cell provider to find out about
charges associated with that.

Blackberry’s can also collect mail from the ACES Exchange server without a BES connection,
however calendar and contact information must be synched via a direct connection (USB
cable) to the computer.

Droid Phones

Phones running the Google Droid operating system can be configured to connect to the ACES
Exchange server as well with synchronization for e-mail, contacts and limited calendar synch
as well.
