Connecting File Browser iPad App to Share Drives

With the File Browser iOS app for your iPad, you can connect to the VPN and browse your network drives (S:, I:, etc) from anywhere in the world. For more information on how to use File Browser, click here for the User Guide.

Once you’ve installed File Browser, follow these steps to connect:

1. On the iPad home screen, tap “Settings.”

2. If you are off campus, turn on the VPN. (Note: if you do not have the VPN set up, visit this page for instructions.)

3. Go back to the home screen and tap “File Browser.”

4. Tap the “Menu” button if you can’t already see the menu.

5. Tap the plus (+) sign to add a location.

6. In the “Address” field, type the appropriate address for the share.

For the S: drive, use \\ad.uillinois.edu\aces\admin

For the I: drive, use \\ad.uillinois.edu\aces\itcs

7. Turn on “Show more Settings.”

8. Under “Display Name,” label the drive appropriately.

9. In the “User Name” field, tap “Edit” and enter uofi\[Your NetID].

10. In the “Password” field, you have a choice of entering it or having it prompt you (“On demand”). We recommend that you leave it set to “On demand” for security reasons, but if you prefer the convenience, you can enter your Campus AD password by tapping “Edit.”

11. When finished, tap “Done.”

12. Tap “Save.”

13. Under the menu, tap the location you just added to connect. If you left the password field to “On demand,” you will be prompted for your AD password. Enter it and tap “Connect.”

14. Browse to the folder you want to view. For example, navigate to your home folder by tapping “Home” and then the folder labeled with your NetID.

15. Once in your folder, tap the plus (+) sign to add it as a bookmark.

Tip: You can set any file or folder as a bookmark, and you can make as many bookmarks as you need.
