Mobile Email App Advisory
ACES Faculty and Staff,
This note is to inform you that Microsoft’s new mobile app, Outlook for iOS and Android, cannot be used with the campus email system because of privacy and security concerns.
- The main problem: Microsoft stores your password on their servers.
- Starting Wednesday, February 11, campus email servers will block connections from this app.
- The good news: this only affects the Outlook mobile app; other apps for email will continue to work.
- If you have not downloaded the Outlook app (released last week), you do not need to do anything.
More information is available at the following Office of Privacy and Information Assurance web page: https://security.illinois.edu/content/microsoft-outlook-ios-and-android-apps.
Please let me or your friendly local IT professional know if you have questions about this.
Happy Friday,
David
David Gerstenecker
Director of IT, College of ACES
